Brian’s College Football Top 5: Week 12
Can you believe there’s only one more full Saturday of college football?
It sucks. I hate it.
But, we must enjoy what we have while we have it.
Here’s this weeks top 5.
5. Louisville Cardinals
Who would’ve thought that after a week 1 loss to Syracuse and many people calling for Scott Satterfield’s job, that Louisville would be 7-4 heading into their rivalry matchup against Kentucky with a chance to finish with a better record than them.
It’s been a very good second half turnaround, and a convincing upset win over NC State helps with that massively.
4. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
North Carolina was 9-1 and undefeated in the ACC, but we all kind of understood that they weren’t that good.
So credit to Georgia Tech for taking care of business, and upsetting the 13th ranked Tarheels to go to 5-6.
Only one more win to be bowl eligible! They just need to beat…
Uh…
Georgia…
Well, 5-7 is still good!
3. Arkansas Razorbacks
Speaking of teams that aren’t as good as we thought…
Ole Miss had a good record, but apart from a fluke win against Kentucky (who don’t seem very good themselves) they never had a big signature win.
And, in a game where they had 700 yards (!!!!) of offense, they still got their doors blown off by Arkansas.
To be honest, I might actually be more impressed with Ole Miss than Arkansas.
700 yards of total offense and losing by 15? That’s stunning.
2. USC Trojans
Now, we’re on the other side of things.
I wasn’t sold on USC this year.
Sure, their immediate turnaround in year 1 of Lincoln Riley was impressive, but their defense was still abysmal and it was tough to see them as a serious playoff contender.
I thought UCLA would easily take care of business.
But, color me shocked, the Lincoln Riley offense came through once again, and the Trojans won on the road to clinch a spot in the PAC 12 championship game and a shot at the college football playoff.
Wild.
1. South Carolina Gamecocks
It’s typical Tennessee, isn’t it?
They simply had to win out.
A one loss SEC team where that one loss was to Georgia? As long as Georgia won the SEC title game, it felt like Tennessee was a sure fire pick for the college football playoff.
Not anymore.
I don’t know where this version of Spencer Rattler was all year, and I’m sure South Carolina fans are asking themselves the same thing, but that’s the Rattler they came to expect.
It was nice to see that come to fruition in the biggest possible moment so far.
Now, to do it against Clemson.
