Brian’s College Football Top 5: Week 11

There are only three more Saturday’s of a full slate of college football.

That sucks!

A lot!

But, we ride.

Here is the top 5 from week 11.

5. Army Black Knights

Army was 8-0 heading into a game against North Texas, a game in which they were favored by 6.5 points.

So a 14-3 win isn’t super impressive.

But you know what is impressive?

The 21 play, 94 yard 14 minute (!!!!!) drive that Army had to make it 14-3.

They wasted an entire quarter of the game.

That is absolutely remarkable.

4. UConn Huskies

UConn has not played the toughest schedule in the world, but they are 7-3. And that’s good.

It’s especially good when you consider that from 2017 to 2021 UConn won 7 games total.

That’s it. 5 football seasons. 7 wins.

Now, they’re 7-3.

I don’t care who they’ve played.

That’s a hell of a job.

3. Virginia Cavaliers

Tony Elliott was one of a few coaches that came into this season on a relative hot seat.

It wasn’t extremely likely that he would be fired, but it wasn’t off the table.

Now, after an upset victory over Pitt, the Cavaliers are 5-4 with 3 weeks left and have a chance at a bowl game.

Now, their last three games are against Notre Dame, SMU and Virginia Tech.

So it’s very possible they stay stagnant at 5 wins and just miss out.

But even still, this is a good season compared to the first two seasons for Tony Elliott where the team won 3 games both times.

2. Kansas Jayhawks

Finally!

Kansas was expected to be a super fun and exciting team all offseason, and it just simply never happened.

Turnovers, blown leads. It just felt like typical Kansas, unfortunately.

But on Saturday against Iowa State, we finally saw what we were expecting to see.

Jalon Daniels slinging it. A high powered offense. A good looking team.

Unfortunately, it’s just a bit too late.

But it’s still good to see.

1. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Miami has been playing with their food a lot this season, and have generally gotten away with it every single time.

They started to do the same with Georgia Tech, and there was that lingering feeling that they’d get away with it again.

But Georgia Tech had the perfect way to prevent it.

Almost 300 yards rushing meant GT controlled the clock, and no turnovers prevented any needless short fields.

It was the perfect recipe to upset the Canes and end their perfect season.

Brent Key is doing a great job in Atlanta.
