NFL Takeaways: Week 8
Photo from The Associated Press
We need to have a conversation about the NFL’s scheduling.
The past two NFL Sunday’s have been just boring, boring football.
It’s an issue!
But alas, I powered through and sat on my couch to watch anyway.
You’re welcome.
Chargers defeat Vikings 37-10
Credit to Carson Wentz for playing through a brutal injury, but man.
Hard to imagine whoever the Vikings third string QB is could have played any worse than Wentz did on Thursday night.
Jets defeat Bengals 39-38
I said weeks ago that Aaron Glenn’s Jets reminded me a lot of Dan Campbell’s Lions in his first season in Detroit.
They’re not good. They aren’t going to win a lot. But you need to build a culture.
And Dan Campbell’s Lions finally got a win in last second fashion.
It wasn’t last second, but it was a similar close win for Glenn’s first win as Jets head coach.
It’s a building block.
Good for them.
Ravens defeat Bears 30-16
I don’t think it can be properly stressed how important this win was for the Ravens, and how devastating this loss was for the Bears.
No Lamar and a defense that has struggled all year, and the Bears couldn’t do a thing against them.
That just can’t happen, Chicago.
Both teams needed it. The Ravens got it.
Dolphins defeat Falcons 34-10
The Dolphins stink. Their coach said their QB throws too many picks. Their QB said he can’t see over his lineman and he had pink eye.
So of course, because they were playing the Falcons, none of that mattered and they blew their doors off.
Ohhhh Atlanta…
Bills defeat Panthers 40-9
People can say what they want about Bryce Young’s stats, but one thing is for sure, the Panthers don’t ever look that horrible when he’s in at QB.
Andy Dalton, you don’t have it anymore, buddy.
Hang em up.
Texans defeat 49ers 26-15
The Texans offense has had a lot of talk about how they’re broken, but they really haven’t been that bad outside of one week against the Seahawks, who also have a really good defense.
Maybe this season can be saved.
Eagles defeat Giants 38-20
This was a statement win by the Eagles.
Defense was solid, Jalen Hurts was good, but crucially, Saquon Barkley finally got going.
If they want to repeat, they need him desperately.
This was a good start.
Patriots defeat Browns 32-13
Are the Patriots contenders this year?
I’m not entirely sure.
But Mike Vrabel can coach, and Drake Maye is playing like a future superstar QB.
So if they aren’t this year, they sure will be soon.
Buccaneers defeat Saints 23-3
A tough game for the Bucs offense, but if you’re going to have a bad offensive game, it’s best to have it happen against a team that can’t do anything at all offensively like the Saints can’t.
Hey, a win is a win.
Colts defeat Titans 38-14
The Titans stink.
Broncos defeat Cowboys 44-24
The Broncos wore their awesome throwback jerseys (which should just be their full time jerseys) and they had their best game of the season and a statement win.
Packers defeat Steelers 35-25
The Steelers wore throwback jerseys that they should frankly never wear again and they had a very poor performance and lost to the Packers in Pittsburgh for the first time since the 70s.
These are the advanced metrics you need to know, folks.
Chiefs defeat Commanders 28-7
Do you think I was watching the Chiefs face Marcus Mariota in Arrowhead instead of game 3 of the World Series?
C’mon, now.
Get your priorities in order.
