NFL Takeaways: Week 7

This week of NFL football started with a bang on Thursday night, and what followed that was a pretty boring and uninteresting weekend, apart from a game or two.

Such is life in the NFL.

Here’s what we learned.

Bengals defeat Steelers 33-31

This was a great chance for the Steelers to take a commanding lead in the AFC North, but a very, very poor defensive performance means that they’re still in the clutches of the Ravens if Lamar comes back, and even the Bengals if Flacco stays hot in Cincy.

This isn’t the normal Steelers defense we’re used to.

Rams defeat Jaguars 35-7

This Jags offense is a mess.

The defense has kept them in games and has them with a winning record, but the offense is extremely poor right now.

Liam Coen and Trevor Lawrence have to get this fixed.

Bears defeat Saints 26-14

The Bears almost let the Saints back into this game, but they pulled away to get the victory.

That’s a good sign that tides are turning in Chicago.

Browns defeat Dolphins 31-6

I don’t know how this game didn’t get Mike McDaniel fired in Miami.

The Dolphins have no fight and no future right now.

It’s really, really bad.

Patriots defeat Titans 31-13

The Pats might just be flat out good, and this had to feel good for Mike Vrabel after being fired in Tennessee for…

You know what? I’m still not sure why they fired him.

Chiefs defeat Raiders 31-0

I didn’t think the Raiders would be a playoff team this year, but this is really bad.

The defense stinks. The offensive line is trash. This is not the same Geno Smith that was in Seattle for the past three years.

I don’t know how they fix it, but they better find a way.

It’s ugly.

Eagles defeat Vikings 28-22

The Eagles needed a big game from their quarterback to get out of this slump, and they got one.

But even still, the Vikings let lots of opportunities get away from them that could have made this a win for Minnesota.

So things aren’t all peachy in Philly right now.

Still have some things to get fixed.

Panthers defeat Jets 13-6

This game was boring and not worth watching.

It was so boring that the Panthers didn’t even bother with a fun win graphic on Twitter.

Snoozer.

Broncos defeat Giants 33-32

This is an inexcusable loss for the Giants.

Up 26-8 with 10 minutes left.

Up 32-30 with 30 seconds left.

They gave up 33 points in the 4th quarter alone.

It’s extremely poor game management from Brian Daboll, and it surely made his seat hotter.

They better finish the year hot, or else it’s new coach time in New York.

Colts defeat Chargers 38-24

I’m calling it now.

The Colts are just flat out good.

Would I pick them to win the Super Bowl? No.

But would I be surprised if they went there?

Not really!

Cowboys defeat Commanders 44-22

The Commanders were one win away from the Super Bowl last year, and now it’s looking like this season will be lost as they sit at 3-4 with Jayden Daniels hurt and the Chiefs, Seahawks, and Lions up next.

That injury, along with this defense, means this team ain’t going nowhere this year.

Packers defeat Cardinals 27-23

I can’t decide if the Packers simply aren’t as good as we thought they were, or if they got dragged into a close one score game against the Cardinals because everyone does against the Cardinals.

I guess we’ll see.

49ers defeat Falcons 20-10

Another win for the insanely injured 49ers.

I still don’t think they’re legitimate contenders with all of those injuries, especially since two of them are season ending to their two best defensive players, but they keep winning.

What else is there to say?

Lions defeat Buccaneers 24-9

This was a desperate win for the Lions who crucially needed to answer back after a tough loss to the Chiefs against a good Bucs team.

They handled their business easily and got back on the right path.

Seahawks defeat Texans 27-19

I have been very clear that I hate the NFL and their dumb double header Monday Night Football thing.

I hate it a lot more when the second game starts at 10 P.M.

I hate it even more when that second game is the Seahawks, so I’m obliged to watch.

And I absolutely, apocalyptically hate it when I have to watch it right after a heartbreaking and devastating Mariners loss.

But I watched.

And the game stunk to high heaven.

The Seahawks offense, outside of JSN, was terrible, but none of it mattered because the Texans offense couldn’t do a thing against the Seahawks.

It was maybe the least enjoyable Seahawks win of my life.
