NFL Takeaways: Week 6

The weather was cold, so it was officially time to wrap up in a blanket and watch football on a Sunday.

The way God intended it to be watched.

Here is what we learned from week 6.

Broncos defeat Seahawks 17-14

The Seahawks have a Sam Darnold problem.

He is costing them wins while the defense plays at a very high level, and he has a contract where it is easy to make a cut after this season.

If he doesn’t improve…

Texans defeat Jaguars 34-31

CJ Stroud is back to rookie year CJ Stroud.

He has been excellent, and if the Texans defense gets better, which I have a feeling they will, they are legitimate title threats despite their 0-4 start to the season.

Bears defeat Falcons 31-23

Caleb Williams is back, and it’s like he never missed a beat.

30/36 with 305 and a touchdown pass.

And the defense, despite a brutal 4th quarter, played well overall.

Browns defeat Ravens 13-10

Derrick Henry only has 5 career fumbles with the Ravens, but it sure feels like every single one is devastating.

This time, a crucial fumble in the 4th quarter up 7 with a chance to, more or less, ice the game away.

Instead, the Browns score a TD and then kick a game winning field goal to move to 4-2 and lead the AFC North.

What a sentence that is…

Titans defeat Colts 26-20

The Colts deciding to go all in last year before Daniel Jones ruptured his Achilles tendon just looks worse and worse and worse.

Now, Chris Ballard is out of a job, and the Colts are likely facing a fire sale and a total rebuild.

Patriots defeat Jets 26-19

Wasn’t necessarily pretty compared to their last two wins, but it’s 3 straight for the Pats now.

Things are getting back to normal.

Saints defeat Giants 34-27

The Giants were losing by a lot, and it’s just one quarter after multiple examples of him playing poorly, but J.J. McCarthy kind of balled out in the 4th quarter and almost led an incredible comeback for the Giants.

You have to wonder if he gets the starting nod next week.

I don’t see Jameis as the answer.

Panthers defeat Eagles 25-14

This is just a disastrous season for the Eagles.

They’re 2-4, Jalen Hurts is now out for the season with a blood clot, and there will be many questions asked of the Eagles training staff for letting him play against Jacksonville despite having the blood clot and apparently having Hurts stay awake for 36 hours!

It’s inexcusable, and should cost people their jobs.

Steelers defeat Buccaneers 26-19

The Bucs are now 1-5 thanks to a 4th quarter collapse against Aaron Rodgers, and even their 1 win almost disappeared due to a ridiculous coaching blunder.

Keeping Todd Bowles looks worse and worse every week.

Cardinals defeat Rams 18-16

We just talked last week about the Rams bad special teams, so it feels kind of cruel that they released their kicker and got a new one, only for him to get hurt immediately, and then also lose to the Cardinals by allowing 6 field goals.

The “Superteam” is now 2-4, and there’s still lots of season left for them to turn it around, but I think it’s time we retire that term, eh?

Not to mention, they’re not ravaged with injuries.

Chiefs defeat Chargers 22-6

Let the record show that I said before the season started that I wasn’t sure Mike McDaniel’s offense strategy was going to work flawlessly in Los Angeles and without receivers like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

And despite being right, I still feel like I was wrong, because not even I thought it’d be this bad.

Their offense is a complete and unmitigated disaster.

Bills defeat Raiders 33-30

I like what the Raiders are building offensively in year one with Klint Kubiak, but even still, this Bills defense is an issue.

Yeah, they’re 5-1. That’s what matters in the end.

But come playoff time, that’s going to be a massive issue.

Packers defeat Cowboys 23-13

Yeah, the Cowboys are just bad.

Even on a night where the defense wasn’t that bad, the offense and offensive play calling was atrocious.

I don’t see a saving grace for this team.

Give me the fell for it again award.

49ers defeat Commanders 23-17

Whether it’s throwing the ball away on 4th down, a terribly timed intentional grounding, taking a sack at the end of the game, or…whatever last week was…, the Commanders seem to have a massive issue with game management.

The Niners, on the other hand, have a stranglehold on the 1 seed now, unless you believe in the Vikings.

It’s officially theirs to lose.
