NFL Takeaways: Week 6

There was football on this weekend.

Let’s talk about it.

Buccaneers defeat Eagles 28-22

I’m not sure if Jalen Hurts is the long term option at QB for the Eagles.

He might not be! I’m genuinely not sure.

But to be definitively sure that he’s not because he didn’t play great against the defending Super Bowl champions who are the 4th ranked team in DVOA this year seems a bit over-reactionary.

The Eagles still aren’t a great team. Let’s relax a bit about Hurts.

Jaguars defeat Dolphins 23-20

The next time a football fan says a team is going to be a monster in the near future because they have stockpiled on high value draft picks, show them the 2021 Miami Dolphins as an example of why that doesn’t guarantee anything.

And this is not me calling people out, because I also thought the Dolphins were in great shape.

If they can’t get it right, then it’s possible for every team to screw it up.

Packers defeat Bears 24-14

I bet Bears fans will be very happy to see Aaron Rodgers traded this offseason.

Bengals defeat Lions 34-11

Joe Burrow is really good.

The Lions might not be.

Colts defeat Texans 31-3

Speaking of not being good, the Houston Texans!

Rams defeat Giants 38-11

Ok. We need to talk about Matt Stafford’s no look pass and the general football media.

Stop saying “IF MAHOMES HAD DONE THIS WE WOULD HAVE SEEN IT 50 TIMES.”

I saw that Stafford clip about 50 times this weekend on Twitter. People acknowledged it.

Stop complaining about a QB not being a viral sensation. That’s not what matters.

And it annoys me.

Mainly that last bit.

Chiefs defeat Washington 31-13

Wow did y’all see what Mahomes did this weekend?

I’ll tell ya, nobody in the league can do the stuff he can.

(You see the joke is I’m doing what I said people are annoyed about earlier).

((Comedy is often it’s best when you explain the joke)).

Vikings defeat Panthers 34-28

Kirk Cousins is really good and Sam Darnold without Christian McCaffery is really not.

Colin Cowherd is weeping somewhere…

Ravens defeat Chargers 34-6

Last week, I said that I wasn’t sure if the Ravens were a true Super Bowl contender or just very lucky, and that their match-up against the Chargers would be a big test for them.

I’d say they passed that test.

Cardinals defeat Browns 37-14

I know Baker Mayfield is a topic everyone loves to discuss.

And I will say that even I, a Baker Mayfield fan, will admit that he has not been as good this year as last year.

But I thought he played pretty well on Sunday, which is why I was shocked to see everyone discuss that the Browns should move off of Baker instead of either A. The Arizona Cardinals being a very good team or B. The Browns defense not being as good as we expected them to be.

Nope. It’s all Baker’s fault, apparently.

Again, I’m not saying Baker has been what he could be. He hasn’t.

But this game was just full of lazy narratives.

I know. I’m as shocked as all of y’all are as well…

Raiders defeat Broncos 34-24

The Raiders got rid of their old abomination of a head coach and won while the Broncos are still winless since Vic Fangio whined and complained about a 5 yard run.

Just saying.

Cowboys defeat Patriots 35-29

Remember those few years where some people tried to make it seem like Dak Prescott actually wasn’t a good quarterback?

That was weird. And also really, really stupid.

Steelers defeat Seahawks 23-20

Maybe Pete Caroll will be gone after this year. Maybe Russell Wilson will. Maybe both will stay or both will be gone.

Who knows?

Here’s what I do know.

The past decade or so of Seahawks football has been stupid, dumb, hilarious and sometimes frustrating.

But 15 years from now, I think all football fans will look back and appreciate the Seahawks making this sometimes boring sport very, very stupid so many times.

They’re a content gold mine.

Titans defeat Bills 34-31

I am of the opinion that running backs are mostly interchangeable, and that you shouldn’t draft one in the first round or spend big money to keep one around.

But if you have the chance to draft or pay for someone like Derrick Henry, you do that 10 out of 10 times.

(But also remember that Derrick Henry was a 2nd round pick so even someone like him wasn’t expected to be THIS good).
