Five Formula 1 Winners & Losers: Singapore Grand Prix
Photo by David Davies from PA
The bright lights of Singapore were the latest stop on the Formula 1 calendar, and F1 decided to also give us a Sprint Race as well!
In a place where passing is very difficult!
Thanks?
Here are the winners & losers from the Singapore Grand Prix
Losers
5. Lance Stroll
I was hoping Lance’s finished races would lead to a hot streak of finishes on the lead lap, or finishes at all.
Alas, it wasn’t to be.
Maybe next race.
4. Cadillac
Singapore is one of the longest tracks on the grid, so it’s really hard, and frankly kind of shocking, that not only was Sergio Perez two laps down, but Valtteri Bottas was three laps down!
Just a shocking lack of pace.
3. George Russell
The championship is pretty much done and dusted by this point, so it’s not a huge loss, but George Russell finishing 9th and only getting two points still just sees that title drifting farther and farther away.
It’s been a tough season for the Brit.
2. Lando Norris
The race was good for the World Champion.
He also managed to get a point in the Sprint Race.
But that point came at the extent of dumping his teammate when there was never a gap to try and overtake.
A foolish move that really had no benefit as neither driver is competing for the championship, and just adds more turmoil to the team.
Weird, weird call.
1. Lewis Hamilton
Ferrari was set up for a great result. A likely double podium.
And then, under the Virtual Safety Car, Charles Leclerc pit, but Lewis Hamilton didn’t.
Everyone thought it was classic Ferrari that they butchered the strategy that poorly, but in reality, it was Hamilton’s call to not pit under the VSC which cost his shot at a podium.
It threw away a potential podium, and Lewis was rightfully kicking himself over it afterwards.
Winners
5. George Russell
I know he was in the losers section, but the Brit still came from the back of the field due to an engine change that put him at the back of the grid to start the race, so getting all the way through to finish 9th at a track where it’s hard to overtake is actually pretty good!
4. Liam Lawson
Another excellent race for the Kiwi driver, finishing 7th and getting a solid 6 points for Racing Bulls.
He’s been a whole different driver than when he was at Red Bull.
Confidence truly is everything.
3. Charles Leclerc
Great Sprint Race. Great race. Two 2nd place finishes.
Excellent weekend.
2. Kimi Antonelli
He’s inching closer and closer to becoming the youngest ever Formula 1 World Champion with his 3rd place finish in Singapore.
It’s not a matter of if now, but a matter of when.
He’s been fantastic.
1. Max Verstappen
But the weekend belonged to Max Verstappen, who, once again, was essentially flawless all weekend.
Make no mistake.
Verstappen is by far the best driver in Formula 1 right now, and it is not close.
The rest of the field is lucky that Red Bull haven’t given him a title fighting car yet.
But if they do, watch out.
