Five Formula 1 Winners: Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

The 2023 Formula 1 season is officially done, and now we sit and wait for testing to begin in around 90 days.

As I did last season, I’m just going to focus on winners overall this season.

There’s no point talking about bad races heading into an offseason.

Let’s be positive, instead!

Winners

5. Williams

Williams, in their first year under James Vowles, clinched 7th in the constructors championship this season.

It’s been a remarkable season, as they push towards making more of a push in the midfield going forward.

4. Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso, who is 42 years old, finished 4th in the standings in his first year with Aston Martin.

He ages like fine wine, doesn’t he?

3. Mercedes

Both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell absolutely hated their car this year.

Despite that, Merc found their way to 2nd in the constructors standings, and can use that as a building block going forward.

It wasn’t as bad as it turned out!

2. Oscar Piastri

Yeah, yeah.

I’m aware that I said Piastri’s season had been underwhelming earlier this year.

And I stand by that.

I felt, considering his hype, that he had not lived up to it while Lando Norris was having quite a good season.

But boy oh boy, did Piastri prove me wrong in the second half of the season.

It’s been a while since I have been that wowed by a rookie.

He is a future champion. Calling it now.

1. Max Verstappen

22 races.

21 podiums.

19 wins.

1,000 laps led.

Record for most wins in a season, best win % in a season, and most consecutive wins in a season.

There has been nothing, and likely will be nothing again, like Max Verstappen’s 2023 season.

Utter domination.
