Brian’s College Football Top 5: Week 8

I can’t lie.

There weren’t a ton of super awe inspiring performances this week. It made picking a top 5 pretty difficult.

But not impossible!

Let’s get right to it.

5. Football Teams Who Took Us Back To The 1900s

Minnesota and Iowa faced off in a game that had the lowest O/U recorded. It was 30.5 total points.

They still hit the under, and it wasn’t even close as Minnesota won 12-10!

And it wasn’t even the lowest score of the weekend, because Mississippi State beat Arkansas 7-3!

And even THAT wasn’t the lowest score of the weekend, because Nevada beat San Diego State 6-0!

These three games were horrible and I am fully in awe of all of them.

4. Boston College Eagles

After BC lost to Northern Illinois and just generally had bad vibes around the program heading into the season, things looked very, very bleak.

But BC has won 3 straight games with their win over Georgia Tech, and have a nice close loss to Florida State as well.

Things might not be that bad!

3. Miami Hurricanes

I don’t think I need to explain the Canes disaster against Georgia Tech a couple weeks ago again.

They followed that horrific loss up by getting smacked around by UNC.

So, the Canes, who before Saturday had not won a home ACC game under Mario Cristobal, welcomed Clemson into town on a very disheartening two game losing streak.

But they powered through and got the win in double overtime.

That was a very, very important win not only for the Canes, but for Cristobal to right the ship.

2. Utah Utes

On the road, against a dominant offense and starting a walk on QB.

But Bryson Barnes played great, and the Utes got the win on the road.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.

Kyle Whittingham is, pound for pound, the best head coach in college football.

1. Virginia Cavaliers

UVA has had a very, very tragic few months.

They lost 3 football players in a shooting at the school, and have had to pick up the pieces and play a tough schedule this year. It hasn’t gone so well.

But Saturday, they got a huge upset win over UNC that will severely hurt UNC’s playoff hopes, and gives their program going through a difficult time a very memorable victory.

Great job, Hoos. You deserve it.
