Brian’s College Football Top 5: Week 7
The college football season is officially halfway done.
That sucks.
But hey. We move.
The weather’s getting colder. The picture is getting a little clearer.
Time to check out the top 5 of week 7.
5. Army Black Knights
I gave Navy love a few weeks ago for their excellent start to the season, so it’s only fair to give Army their credit too.
Army is now 6-0 after trouncing UAB, and we are heading towards one of the most exciting Army-Navy game in years.
I can’t wait.
4. Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks
Look, I know.
I keep putting ULM here.
But they won again! They’re 5-1! They’re close to bowl eligibility in a year they were projected to win 2 games!
This Warhawks season and the job Bryant Vincent has done is nothing short of incredible.
3. Vanderbilt Commodores
Last week, Vandy beat Alabama.
It was awesome and exciting, but people looked at it as this massive upset.
And I guess, to an extent, it was. But I believed in Vandy.
It was an upset, sure. But it was not as massive as people thought.
This Vandy team is good.
And they wanted to prove that by going into Lexington this week and beating Kentucky to show that they’re a legitimately good SEC team.
Two more touchdowns for Diego Pavia and a 20-13 win showed that.
I told you.
Vandy is just good.
2. Georgia Southern Eagles
Southern was facing a brutal, brutal loss.
At home against a Marshall team who is decent but nothing special, and they were down 23-3 going into the 4th quarter.
It would be a terrible loss for Clay Helton.
And then, after Helton made a swap at QB to put in Dexter Williams II, the Eagles scored 21 straight points in the 4th quarter to get a 24-23 win and avoid a home conference loss.
The Eagles are now 4-2, and this could be a turning point in their season.
1. Arizona State Sun Devils
Tempe, Arizona had a reputation of being a house of horrors for ranked teams (usually Oregon if we’re being honest), but recently the team has gotten worse and have become a little bit of a pushover.
But Saturday night, facing the number 16 Utah Utes, they turned back into the home powerhouse they were in years past, and got the upset victory on Friday night.
Kenny Dillingham has done an excellent job quickly turning around that program that was left in shambles and under NCAA sanctions for rules violations, and they’re 5-1 with a great chance of fighting for a Big 12 title.
The Sun Devils might just be back.
