Brian’s College Football Top 5: Week 4

It was another exciting weekend of college football, and another reminder of how things change from week to week.

What we thought we knew, we might have been dead wrong about.

So who made the top 5 this week?

Honorable Mention: Oklahoma State Cowboys

OK State had their first true road test, going into a hyped up Morgantown to take on West Virginia in a night game.

And after a back and forth game, the Cowboys completely dominated the 4th quarter for a comfortable win.

They are a legitimate threat to win the Big 12.

5. Mississippi State Bulldogs

The Bulldogs got a good win last week over South Carolina in Columbia, and they had to repeat that against a ranked Missouri team at home.

But Kamario Taylor did what Kamario Taylor has been doing all year, and the Bulldogs got the late win at home over Missouri to leap into the top 25.

And now, a home date against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

If Jeff Lebby truly wants to make a statement, now is the time to do it.

4. Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Jake Dickert is just one hell of a football coach, man.

The Deacs went into Louisville as heavy underdogs, but had a dominant first half offensively, and a stifling second half defensively, to upset the Cardinals 30-27.

He’s for real, and might get some eyeballs at some higher programs if he keeps it up.

(Though the official stance of this site is that I hope he stays at Wake).

3. Wisconsin Badgers

This was a typical Wisconsin game under Luke Fickell.

Playing hard, but not doing enough to win.

And then, out of nowhere, Bucky Badger pulled out two touchdowns in the final 4 minutes of the game to upset Penn State on the road and finally get Luke Fickell a signature win at Wisconsin.

Time to see if he can ride that to sustain success in Madison.

2. Iowa Hawkeyes

After the most Iowa game ever, the Hawkeyes were down 19-14 with 2 seconds left.

But a touchdown on the final play of the game thanks to an excellent catch means Iowa, in the most Iowa fashion ever, stole a win on the road with just one moment of offensive brilliance.

Side note, how did Michigan begin the year with 4 straight home games?

That’s wild to me.

1. Florida Gators

Ole Miss was obviously on upset alert.

A road game against a very good Florida team without Kewan Lacy after an emotional win against LSU.

But even still, Florida absolutely stomped Ole Miss.

Jadan Baugh and Duke Clark both rushed for over 120 yards and combined for four touchdowns as the Gators beat Ole Miss 52-28.
