Brian’s College Football Top 5: Championship Week

And so, the time has come.

The last top 5 of the year.

The college football season always feels just too short.

But a lot of teams still had games this weekend, so it only felt right to go out on a high note and celebrate the most impressive teams of the weekend.

So for one final time, let’s do this.

5. Michigan Wolverines

Michigan is the best team in the Big Ten, so it’s not a surprise that they easily won their conference title.

However, the Spoilermakers were hanging around at halftime, and that’s never an easy feat no matter what amount of talent you have.

But in the second half, Michigan turned it up to 11 and ran away with it.

Easily beating an unranked Purdue when you yourself are ranked is always impressive.

4. UTSA Roadrunners

Last season, UTSA had a breakout year which put them as one of the top level G5 schools.

This year, it was about remaining there.

After all, they’re a school in Texas and in a major city. They can continuously be a top tier G5 school.

Well, another C-USA Championship and an 11-2 season surely helps their case to remain there.

Meep meep.

3. Kansas State Wildcats

Kansas State hired a coach from North Dakota State who constantly won over and over again.

Shock surprise, it didn’t take very long for him to win at Kansas State.

The Wildcats have won their first conference championship since 2012, and Chris Klieman shows no signs of them getting any worse.

2. Tulane Green Wave

Not only was this a good year from Tulane.

Not only was it impressive due to the schools general apathy toward football most of the time.

But if this was the first year of the 12 team playoff, Tulane would have been the 4th ranked team and gotten a first round bye.

That friggin rules, man.

Not only that, but they’re keeping their coach and their freshman quarterback.

Tulane might be hanging around for a bit.

1. Utah Utes

There is nothing the PAC 12 loves more than eating itself.

All USC needed to do was win on Friday night, and they’d be headed to the playoff in year 1 under Lincoln Riley.

And it looked easy enough, as the Trojans got out to an early 17-3 lead and have the likely Heisman winner playing lights out.

It was a cakewalk.

Until Utah woke up.

And boy, did they wake the hell up.

A 23 point 4th quarter meant the Utes blew the doors off of USC, and will be heading to the Rose Bowl for the second year in a row.

And they better bring back the white rose helmets too. Those ruled.

And that’s that.

Another year of impressive teams is in the books.

Now we wait and see if we get a Michigan vs Ohio State national championship game.

That would be incredibly toxic, and I hope it happens.
