2025 Formula 1 Season Predictions Review

Photo from Formula 1

Before the season began, I predicted the constructors and drivers standings for the Formula 1 season.

Now that the season is over and done with, I thought it’d be good to look back and see how I did in a sport that is very unpredictable year after year when it comes to the midfield.

So let’s bask in the glory of my genius, or make fun of me terribly for being a dumb dumb head.

10. Alpine (Pierre Gasly: 18th, Franco Colapinto: 20th, Jack Doohan: 21st)

My Prediction: 6th (Pierre Gasly: 9th, Jack Doohan: 17th)

Alright. Off to a bad start.

I thought Pierre Gasly would get a shock podium here and there to help propel the French output to the top of the midfield, but I grossly overestimated how horrible this car was.

Gasly had some good qualifying performances, and was the only one who got points, but that car was by far the worst on the grid.

Hopefully 2026 brings better luck.

9. Sauber (Nico Hulkenberg: 11th, Gabriel Bortoleto: 19th)

My Prediction: 10th (Nico Hulkenberg: 19th, Gabriel Bortoleto: 20th)

Don’t be fooled by this 9th place for Sauber.

This was a really good season before they turn into Audi

I had no faith in this car even sort of being competitive, and instead we had some great races for both drivers, including a first ever podium for Nico Hulkenberg at Great Britain!

So while 9th may be the end result and near the bottom of the grid, it’s hard to feel anything but good about the future of this team.

Assuming Audi is taking this seriously.

8. Haas (Oliver Bearman: 13th, Esteban Ocon: 15th)

My Prediction: 7th (Esteban Ocon: 14th, Oliver Bearman: 15th)

Here’s what I said back in March.

“It won’t be anything spectacular. Just some good races and decent points.”

Apart from thinking Ocon would come out ahead of Bearman, and being just one spot off, I’d say I nailed this one.

7. Aston Martin (Fernando Alonso: 10th, Lance Stroll: 16th)

My Prediction: 8th (Fernando Alonso: 13th, Lance Stroll: 16th)

I was not sold on this car being good, and I was correct about that.

This always felt like a stop gap year before Adrian Newey took control of the 2026 car.

What I was wrong about was just how much left Fernando Alonso has in the tank.

He just never stops performing, even into his 40s.

6. Racing Bulls (Isack Hadjar: 12th, Liam Lawson: 14th)

My Prediction: 9th (Yuki Tsunoda: 12th, Isack Hadjar: 18th)

Hey. Want to hear the funny thing I said back in March?

“Hadjar is far from a bad driver, but of the 5 rookies I’d say he’s the joint bottom for most expected potential.”

That is by far my worst prediction of the season.

Hadjar was unbelievable as a rookie, and Liam Lawson was great once he got his confidence back after being dropped by Red Bull Racing (which is why my prediction says Tsunoda above).

The second Red Bull team might have been better than the senior team.

They just didn’t have Max Verstappen.

5. Williams (Alex Albon: 8th, Carlos Sainz: 9th)

My Prediction: 5th (Carlos Sainz: 10th, Alex Albon: 11th)

It took Sainz a little bit of time to get used to his new team, and he ended up with two podiums, so I got the placement and top driver wrong.

Other than that?

Nailed it.

4. Ferrari (Charles Leclerc: 5th, Lewis Hamilton: 6th)

My Prediction: 2nd (Charles Leclerc: 3rd, Lewis Hamilton: 5th)

I know better than to have faith in Ferrari.

That’s on me. That’s my fault.

3. Red Bull (Max Verstappen: 2nd, Yuki Tsunoda: 17th)

My Prediction: 3rd (Max Verstappen: 1st, Liam Lawson 8th)

If the Isack Hadjar prediction was my worst (it was), then this was by far my best.

I was 2 points away from being dead on the money that Max Verstappen would be World Champion despite the third best car, because it’s obvious he is the best driver in the world.

So was I wrong? Technically yes.

But you’re out of your mind if you think I’m not counting this as a win.

I cooked here.

2. Mercedes (George Russell: 4th, Kimi Antonelli: 7th)

My Prediction: 4th (George Russell: 6th, Kimi Antonelli: 7th)

I didn’t give George “Mr. Consistency” Russell enough credit.

Russell kept to his own business, continuously got podiums and good results and a couple of race wins, and helped Mercedes get 2nd in the standings, even while the possible threat of Max Verstappen joining the team in 2026 was looming over him.

He’s a damn good driver.

As for Antonelli, crushed it once again.

1. McLaren (Lando Norris: 1st, Oscar Piastri: 3rd)

My Prediction: 1st (Lando Norris: 2nd, Oscar Piastri: 3rd)

This was my second best prediction of the year.

It was obvious that the McLaren was the fastest car, and it was obvious that the two drivers would be title contenders.

But I also said this title might come with some problems because of having two drivers, and it really almost did.

Some odd team orders. Some weird “Papaya Rules.”

McLaren almost let Max Verstappen steal the title right from under their nose.

They got away with it, and Lando Norris is a deserved champion, but man oh man.

I saw this coming, and it almost came to fruition.
