The 2026 baseball season has come to a close, and, thanks to the impending lockout, who knows when we will see it again.
But for now, let’s celebrate our brand new World Series champion.
Brewers defeat Rays 4-1
Maya Angelou has a famous quote.
“When someone shows you who they are, believe them.”
It’s a lesson sports fans would do well to heed in 2026, because all four of the “Big 4 Sports” champions showed you exactly who they were.
It started in early 2026 when the Seattle Seahawks were dominating everyone on a long win streak, but nobody believed they can win the Super Bowl with a defensive coach and Sam Darnold.
And then, NFC Championship game notwithstanding, they breezed through the playoffs to become Super Bowl Champion.
In June, the New York Knicks were the hottest team in basketball all through 2026.
Sure, they might be able to get through the East, but they don’t hold a candle to the Spurs, Thunder, or Nuggets.
And then they waltzed through the playoffs and the Spurs with a 16-3 record to win the NBA Finals.
Another team that went 16-3 on route to a championship were the Carolina Hurricanes, who won 53 games and were far and away the best team in the Eastern Conference, but they don’t have great goaltending and their highest point getter was Sebastian Aho with 80 points, good for 25th in the league.
Plus, Rod Brind’Amour’s style hasn’t worked in the postseason when it gets to the final four teams, so nobody thought this year would be any different.
And that brings us to the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Brewers had the best record in baseball this year.
They have the runaway NL Cy Young winner.
They led the league in team batting average, were second in team ERA, and second in team WAR.
But nobody believed in them, because with how good the Brewers have been for years, the team always falls short in the playoffs because they don’t have any superstar bats, and they don’t hit home runs, and that’s what wins in modern baseball.
But not this year.
This year they went 11-2 in the postseason to win the title, just one game short of the 99 Yankees and 05 White Sox for the best playoff runs in MLB history.
They did it with their 7-8-9 hitters dominating the series, and rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt literally setting World Series records with hits in six straight at bats.
They did it with incredible bullpen pitching.
And I’m glad they did, because maybe now we can finally change how we discuss sports.
Look, I get it. I love superstars too.
Connor McDavid is unreal.
Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes and Caleb Williams are must watch TV every Sunday.
Victor Wembanyama is one of the best players I’ve ever seen, and SGA is an offensive mastermind.
And big home runs are unbelievable to experience in the postseason.
But the era of needing an elite QB to win a Super Bowl is over.
Just like the era of only needing 2 or 3 superstars in the NBA or stacking the lineup with power hitters in baseball.
Congratulations to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Maybe, because of you, people will start to believe what they see.
