Why Each Team Will/Will Not Win the Super Bowl: NFC
The NFC was projected to be pretty top heavy, and so it would be!
Still, that doesn’t mean this side of the bracket is any sort of guarantee.
Here is why each NFC team will or will not win the Super Bowl.
San Francisco 49ers
Why They Will
This is the closest thing the NFL has to a super team.
Running back, wide receiver, defensive line, linebacker, secondary.
They have arguably a top 5 player at almost every position, and they have the games best offensive play caller to help them out.
This team has the capability to destroy everything in it’s path.
Why They Won’t
There are questions with quarterback Brock Purdy, as he has yet to lead the Niners to a comeback when the going gets tough.
As I said above, that might not matter.
But playoff games are close. They’re nitty gritty.
He might simply not have that ability.
And it doesn’t help that his head coach is 0-37 in games where the Niners trail by 8 points or more in the 4th quarter, and 1-31 in games where they trail by 3 points or more.
The Niners can beat you down.
But if it gets close? They’re not very trustworthy.
Dallas Cowboys
Why They Will
They’re truthfully in almost the exact same boat as the Niners, just with a more proven quarterback.
There’s no reason the Cowboys can’t do what everyone expects the Niners to do and run through the NFC.
Why They Won’t
Remember what I said about the Niners? How they aren’t trustworthy if games get close?
You think I’m going to let the Dallas friggin Cowboys off the hook for the same thing?
Uh uh.
Detroit Lions
Why They Will
A super fun offense led by a couple of excellent rookies, a head coach who will have his team ready to play no matter who the opponent is, and a couple of great coordinators on both sides of the ball to game plan.
The tools are all there.
Why They Won’t
First, I don’t put a ton of faith in Jared Goff, nor the rookies he has with him regardless of how good they are.
Second, this team is pretty beat up.
Third, it’s the Lions.
It’s nice that they won the NFC North for the first time ever, but it’s still the Lions.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Why They Will
They take their name too literally and become actual pirates, stealing the Lombardi Trophy and claiming it as their own.
Why They Won’t
Becoming actual pirates is against NFL rules, and the team isn’t good enough to win one the legal way.
Bummer!
Philadelphia Eagles
Why They Will
They went to the Super Bowl last year. They still have a great offensive line, a dynamic quarterback in Jalen Hurts and some excellent weapons at receiver.
If they get hot, watch out.
Why They Won’t
The Eagles defense was already a weak point of this squad, and that was when the offense WAS cooking.
Now, the offense is not cooking. At all. It’s been a complete disaster.
And the proof is in the game results.
They very well could get this fixed, but I certainly don’t have faith they will.
Los Angeles Rams
Why They Will
It was just two years ago that the Rams won a Super Bowl with mostly the same core pieces they currently have.
Stafford is healthy and playing great football again, and McVay is a proven coach at this level.
And I don’t know when Aaron Donald will ever stop being a freak.
Why They Won’t
All those core pieces are just creeping up on that “getting too old range” while the other help surrounding them is in that “maybe a little bit too young” range.
It was a remarkable job by the Rams to recover after a putrid year last year, and to retool as fast as they did, but the timing just feels off for this group.
Green Bay Packers
Why They Will
Well, it was around this time in Aaron Rodgers career that he sprung onto the scene and won a Super Bowl after sitting for many years.
Why can’t Jordan Love?
Why They Won’t
This team isn’t ready yet, but like I said with Houston yesterday, I don’t think Packers fans really care.
This team, after trading Aaron Rodgers, was expected to be headed towards an extended period of flat out poor play or mediocrity at best, and they made the playoffs year one.
Not shabby at all.
