What College Football Program Is Your Favorite Formula 1 Team?

Not only is it the week of the British Grand Prix, it’s also almost July, which means we’re about 2 months away from the start of the college football season.

As these are two of my favorite sports (and I am bored), I decided to compare Formula 1 teams to college football teams.

Is this stupid? Probably.

But hey, this is my website. Get your own.

Mercedes: Alabama Crimson Tide

I know this is a down year for Mercedes, but it’s sort of like the year Alabama went 10-2 and missed the playoffs.

They’re still good overall, and they’re still the team that keeps winning championships despite you desperately hoping that they stop.

You’ll enjoy this year. And then you’ll be wildly annoyed next year when they get right back to it.

Red Bull Racing: Georgia Bulldogs

The team that has desperately been trying to chase Alabama, and finally beat them to win it all last year.

Granted, Red Bull actually didn’t win the constructors title. That was still Mercedes.

But go back and watch their celebrations as Max beat Lewis for the drivers title.

They don’t give a damn.

Ferrari: Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The reason this post came to mind is that my friend Joe mentioned that someone compared Ferrari to Texas, and I found that unfair.

Ferrari has high expectations, and, while they fall short of the title, they’re still a good team.

That sounds a lot more like Notre Dame to me than Texas.

Alpine: Texas Longhorns

Now THIS is who reminds me of Texas.

Basically every year since 2018, we have been hearing from Renault/Alpine about how much money they have and how they are poised to take the next step towards fighting for the championship.

And they just never do.

Nor do they come close.

Aston Martin: Wisconsin Badgers

The past couple of years haven’t been tremendous for the Aston Martin team, but as Racing Point/Force India they were masters at doing the most with so little.

Wisconsin is usually quite a good program despite not having the greatest resources or recruiting classes.

You sort of just know what you’re going to get.

McLaren: Miami Hurricanes

McLaren used to be one of the premier teams in Formula 1, before they went on a downturn and had some horrid seasons.

But they have new management that is slowly getting them back on the right track, much like what Mario Cristobal is planning on doing with Miami.

I also considered USC for this, but McLaren is orange and so is Miami.

Woo! Colors!

Alfa Romeo: Washington State Cougars

You know how there’s just one year every now and then when Washington State is good and you don’t really realize it because you aren’t paying attention to them much?

That’s Alfa Romeo.

I wouldn’t have guessed they were 6th in the constructors standings before I looked it up, despite knowing Bottas has had a good year so far.

Alpha Tauri: Purdue Boilermakers

Never a great team that will fight for titles, but you can bet there is one time per year that they pull off a masterclass result/upset that shocks the world.

Haas F1 Team: Liberty Flames

The new kids on the block who sometimes are pretty damn good and sometimes very much so bad.

Throw in some extremely questionable funding to both programs and you’ve got yourself a match!

Williams Racing: Nebraska Cornhuskers

Once the premier teams in the sport, and now a team we beg and plead to get back to where they belong at the top but they just can’t seem to do it.
