NFL Takeaways: Week 17

Photo from USA Today

Week 16 came and went with a blur, and Christmas Eve and Christmas made it hard to get time to write, so I missed a week.

Sue me, alright?

But don’t actually please I can’t afford a trial.

Let’s dive into week 17.

Chiefs defeat Steelers 29-10

The Chiefs are really good and they’ll probably win the Super Bowl again.

Such is life.

Ravens defeat Texans 31-2

I know the Ravens record isn’t “elite” but this is a very, very good football team whose defense is once again getting better as the year goes on.

On another note, great call putting these games on Christmas Day, NFL!

There were 4 NBA games that were significantly better than these snoozers.

Seahawks defeat Bears 6-3

Speaking of snoozers…

Fun fact, the last two 6-3 games in NFL history both involved the Seahawks.

Fun!

Anyway, I built a super cool barcart during this game that was nice.

Swing on by the new place we have tons of booze.

Chargers defeat Patriots 40-7

Yikes, Patriots.

Yikes.

Bengals defeat Broncos 30-24

I keep seeing over and over again that “nobody wants to see the Bengals in the postseason.”

Yes, Joe Burrow and the Bengals offense is having a fantastic year.

Their defense is still a tire fire.

So I wouldn’t be worried in the slightest if they made it in.

Rams defeat Cardinals 13-9

In a year where it felt like everything that needed to go wrong for the Seahawks to miss the playoffs did go wrong, them being eliminated because of an interception that bounced off a Cardinals players face in the endzone, ending the game with a score of 13-9 (if you know WVU football, you know) is just a giant slap in the face.

Very rude, football gods.

Bills defeat Jets 40-14

The Jets suck.

Jaguars defeat Titans 20-13

It’s good for the Jags to just get some wins over bad opponents, even without Trevor Lawrence.

There has to be that belief in the room that you can win these games still.

Losing cultures in locker rooms usually linger in this sport.

Buccaneers defeat Panthers 48-14

Baker Mayfield is another example of how better coaching and better organizations can make you a better players.

There’s another example we will get to later.

Raiders defeat Saints 25-10

The new coach bump has officially worn off for the Saints, and they’re back to flat out bad.

Eagles defeat Cowboys 41-7

The Eagles not letting Saquon try and break an NFL record this weekend is super, super lame.

I get it, to an extent.

He’s a crucial piece on an offense that already has some notable injuries, and there’s no reason to risk it for nothing.

But that doesn’t make it not super lame.

Giants defeat Colts 45-33

It may be an offseason of cleaning house for the Indianapolis Colts.

Just too many wasted opportunities this year, culminating in them getting torched by Drew Lock.

Dolphins defeat Browns 20-3

This game was a snoozer. Not worth discussing.

Vikings defeat Packers 27-25

Vikings have good coaching, great weapons, a good offensive line, and Sam Darnold is thriving.

As I said with Baker, sometimes players just need some structure.

Commanders defeat Falcons 30-24

The Falcons might miss the postseason strictly because of poor field goal kicking this year.

It reared it’s ugly head on Sunday night again, after a 56 yard field goal that could have won them the game and put the Falcons in control of their own playoff destiny fell short.

Lions defeat 49ers 40-34

The Lions are beat the hell up, but they just keep on winning.

I don’t know if they have the health to win it all, but they sure as hell have the tenacity to do so.
