Five Formula 1 Winners & Losers: Singapore Grand Prix
Photo from Formula 1
While the temperature around Singapore was toasty, the race itself was a big ole snoozer.
But there were still winners and losers from the weekend, so let’s get to it.
Losers
5. Lance Stroll
How many more times do I need to watch Stroll get beaten by his teammate before we decide enough is enough?
I know, I know.
The money and his father.
But still. I’m getting kind of sick of it.
4. Nico Hulkenberg
It wasn’t the best weekend for Hulk as is, but his rear brake lock up and spin meant he was the only driver to really have an incident all race, and ended up dead last in the race.
3. Williams
A double disqualification in qualifying due to ride height meant that Williams race was basically ruined from the start, but in the end, they were able to get at least something out of it.
Still, they tied one hand behind their back to start with that mistake.
2. Oscar Piastri
Because of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris finishing 2nd and 3rd, while Piastri finished 4th, the damage was minimal towards his championship fight.
Still, this is three races in a row Piastri has been outscored by his championship rivals. He has to find another gear, and fast.
1. Pierre Gasly
Pierre has no business getting beaten handily by his teammate Franco Colapinto, but he was, and has been quite a few times, since signing his extension with Alpine.
He is slumping, and hard.
Winners
5. McLaren
Congratulations to McLaren for their second consecutive Constructors Championship, but I can’t give them a higher spot on the winners list due to my anger of how they have handled their two drivers in a championship fight, making all the controversy and big moments on the radio as opposed to on track.
But still, they won. So good job.
4. Oliver Bearman
Bearman had his best ever qualifying performance, and got a solid 4 points for Haas with an 8th place finish.
Well deserved performance for the rookie.
3. Kimi Antonelli
This was rookie Kimi Antonelli’s first race around Singapore, and the Italian did a fantastic job all weekend, even being faster than his teammate George Russell for large spells of the weekend.
He can’t be upset with a 5th place finish.
2. Carlos Sainz
Sainz started the race from the pit lane due to the disqualification from qualifying mentioned earlier, but he still found his way into the points at a track where it is very difficult to overtake, thanks to good pace and tire management.
It was a great job salvaging something from nothing.
1. George Russell
Russell looked second best to his teammate Kimi Antonelli for most of the weekend, but then he actually got some tips from Antonelli’s side of the garage, and the rest was history.
Nobody could touch him in qualifying, and nobody truly threatened him during the race.
A dominant weekend from Russell, at a track I don’t think many expected him, or Mercedes, to be successful at.
