Five Formula 1 Winners & Losers: Mexican Grand Prix

There’s only three races left in this Formula 1 season.

Weird.

I guess time flies when Max wins all the time.

Here are the winners and losers from the Mexican Grand Prix.

Losers

5. Charles Leclerc

This one is a little mean and probably unfair.

After all, Leclerc got a podium.

But at the same time, how many times in the past two years has Leclerc gotten pole only for Max Verstappen to win?

It’s far too many, that’s how many.

4. Alfa Romeo

It was just a bad weekend for Alfa.

Not much else to say other than that.

But hey, at least they finished!

3. Aston Martin

Unlike Aston Martin, who had a terrible race involving both cars getting DNF’s.

Remember the beginning of the year when Aston looked like clearly the second best team?

Long gone are those days.

2. Kevin Magnussen

Haas is not a big budget team.

They want good results, but the most important thing to them is not forcing extra costs due to unnecessary damage.

So Kevin Magnussen crashing the car, while already not having a good year, is the worst possible thing he can do.

1. Sergio Perez

On his home weekend, with all the rumors of him being replaced, Checo needed to make a statement.

His statement was to get an outstanding start to get neck and neck for the lead, before crashing out and retiring on the first corner.

I don’t know if the rumors of Perez not being at Red Bull in 2024 are true or not, but that surely didn’t help.

Winners

5. Lewis Hamilton

Another solid race and a podium for Lewis.

He may not be in a race winning car, but he’s consistent.

4. Alex Albon

A couple more points for Albon and Williams to help themselves in the constructors standings.

Albon has been in tremendous form this year.

3. Max Verstappen

Last year, Max Verstappen broke the record for most wins in a season with 15.

Yesterday, he broke his own record and got his 16th win of the year.

There’s still 3 races left, too.

He’s unstoppable.

2. Lando Norris

A horrible qualifying for Lando Norris had him starting 19th.

And the man only went and drove it up to finish 5th.

It was an absolutely fantastic drive, and another reminder of how good the young drivers in Formula 1 are.

1. Daniel Ricciardo

Those Checo rumors I mentioned earlier?

The rumors are that he will be replaced by Daniel Ricciardo.

So, Ricciardo putting the car on 4th and getting a 7th place finish to make Alpha Tauri jump two spots in the standings is a great audition for his future.

Like I said, I don’t know where Ricciardo goes next year.

But the Honey Badger proved that he still has it.
