Brian’s College Football Top 5: Week 9

This post is a day late because Squarespace decided to screw up and make my entire website black.

Which is hurtful.

Still, that doesn’t stop me from just waiting a day before I post my normal stuff.

Here is this week’s top 5.

5. Miami Hurricanes & Virginia Cavaliers

Miami and Virginia went to 4 overtimes and neither team scored a touchdown, leading to a riveting 14-12 game.

That’s absurdly impressive.

I loved it.

4. Iowa Hawkeyes

Iowa scored over 30 points for the first time all year!

Time to give Brian Ferentz that contract extension!

3. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Have we considered that we’re being a teeny bit too harsh on Marcus Freeman in year 1 at Notre Dame?

Is he doing a phenomenal job? No.

But the Irish are 4-4 and just upset a good (we think) Syracuse team on the road in a very tough environment.

Seriously, the JMA Dome (Carrier Dome) cooks when the Orange are good.

That’s a great win.

Get him a QB, and the Irish will thrive.

2. Louisville Cardinals

Wake Forest was leading at halftime over Louisville 14-13.

When the third quarter ended, Louisville was ahead 48-14.

The Cardinals defense went ballistic on Sam Hartman, forcing 8 total turnovers.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a quarter like that.

1. Kansas State Wildcats

There are statement wins, and then there are STATEMENT wins.

Kansas State welcomed Oklahoma State into town, and absolutely blew the doors off of them.

It was never even close to competitive, and if not for red zone struggles against Tulane and a QB injury against TCU, we might be talking about an 8-0 Kansas State who is a playoff contender.

But the Wildcats sure look destined to end up in Dallas with a chance to avenge that loss to TCU in the Big 12 championship game.

Chris Klieman has done such a fantastic job in Manhattan, Kansas.

And most importantly, they’re an absolute blast to watch.

That always helps.
