What another awesome weekend of college football.
So good, that I can’t even mention that New Mexico beat North Dakota State to get a stranglehold on the possible Mountain West playoff spot, or ULM getting their first win of the year.
But that’s what happens when you have a weekend like this one.
And with that, here is this weeks top 5.
5. Texas Longhorns
Boy oh boy did they need this one.
Coming off back to back tough losses and facing a very good Ole Miss team, it wasn’t out of the realm of possibility that a loss here from Texas would keep them out of the playoffs.
But, despite their best efforts to blow it in the second half, the Longhorns got a huge win to keep those playoff hopes alive, thanks to a dominant running performance.
4. Minnesota Golden Gophers
Thanks to their win for the Floyd of Rosedale Trophy, Minnesota now holds all three of their rivalry trophies for the first time since 1978.
And they did this one in strong Iowa fashion.
Get turnovers. Block a punt. Keep it low scoring.
I guess that’s how you beat Iowa.
Play their own game.
3. Cincinnati Bearcats
This game was talked about a lot during the offseason while the Texas Tech/Brendan Sorsby whole mess was going on, as Sorsby was the former Cincy QB.
Obviously, Sorsby was deemed ineligible and wouldn’t play in College Football this year, but that didn’t stop a great Cincy crowd, and an even better Cincy performance.
The Bearcats won by 17, and even that is a little misleading in terms of how close it was.
Cole Tabb ran for 173 yards on 16 carries as Cincy completely controlled the line of scrimmage.
Huge win for Scott Satterfield and the Bearcats.
2. South Carolina Gamecocks
You’re going to have to drag Shane Beamer kicking and screaming from this job.
Just a few weeks ago, the discussion was when does South Carolina fire Shane Beamer after three straight losses to Mississippi State, Alabama, and Kentucky.
But then last week the Gamecocks upset Florida on the road to breathe some life back into the program, and that continued this weekend with a huge upset win over Tennessee.
Maybe this season can be salvaged after all!
1. UCF Knights
But the weekend belonged to UCF.
Scott Frost’s second stint at UCF has been a bit rocky, and having to play backup QB Keyone Jenkins against number 2 BYU was likely not going to help things.
But I guess Jenkins didn’t get the memo, throwing for almost 300 yards and 3 touchdowns in a double overtime upset win for UCF to get the signature win for this second Scott Frost era.
The Big 12 spent all weekend eating itself, which in other conferences would be considered a good thing.
But for Brandon Walker and his Barstool cronies, it actually means it’s because they suck.
What a fun way to watch college football, eh?
