Brian’s College Football Top 5: Week 3

If you didn’t stay up late, you missed the best game of the weekend.

Don’t worry, though.

That’s what I’m here for!

Here’s this weeks top 5.

5. West Virginia Mountaineers

Is this partly biased? Maybe a little bit.

But I do think it is deserved.

The Mountaineers welcomed arch rival Pitt into Morgantown for the first time since 2011, and on the second series of the game their starting QB Garrett Greene went down with an injury.

Freshman QB Nicco Marchiol took over to get the most game time he’s ever gotten, and in the most important spot of the season.

Marchiol minimized mistakes and the WVU defense held Pitt to 6 points and WVU got a big win for the Neal Brown era.

Alright. It’s biased.

Sue me.

4. Florida Gators

The Gators were putrid in week 1 against Utah. Just horrible.

A week 3 matchup against Tennessee was a good chance to get back on the right path and get themselves a big win over a ranked opponent.

Winning is one thing, but more importantly than everything else is that they won the Billy Napier way.

This was a proof of concept win for the Gators, and has to ease minds of their fans going forward in terms of Billy Napier’s success.

3. Missouri Tigers

A win over a ranked team with a last second 61 yard field goal? That’s amazing.

Hell, it should put them even higher.

But the absolute calamity of the coaching at the end of the game doesn’t inspire a ton more confidence in Eli Drinkwitz.

Still, you can’t ignore at all how big of a win this was for the Tigers.

2. South Alabama Jaguars

South Alabama is one of the best G5 schools in the country.

Them beating Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma would be a big upset.

But beating them 33-7? That’s a full on demolition.

The Pokes didn’t have a chance.

1. Colorado Buffaloes

When Colorado beat TCU week 1, I was extremely impressed, but still wanted to see what they would do when they got punched in the mouth.

In week 2, Nebraska punched them in the mouth, but the Buffs pulled away because of Nebraska’s lackluster offense.

Colorado State punched them in the mouth (often illegally) and had a competent offense that really put the pressure on Deion.

They even lost Travis Hunter to a dirty late hit as well.

But despite it all, the Buffs never lost their cool, and Shadeur Sanders led a 98 yard TD drive to tie the game late before the Buffs won in overtime.

I don’t need anymore proof with Colorado.

This is a very good, very well coached football team in Boulder.

They deserve the attention, and then some.
