A week 2 slate that was considered a little bit bland actually produced some exciting games!

That’s the beauty of college football.

Here are this week’s top 5.

Disclaimer: If you’re new to this list (as it is the first one on the new website), this is not a top 5 list of the teams I think are best. This is a list of the 5 teams I was most impressed with from the week.

5. Cal vs TCU

Everyone remembers the 2018 Cheez-It Bowl, also known as the greatest bad game in college football history.

A game in which there were almost as many interceptions as points at some point. A game that ended 10-7 in overtime.

It was disgusting. It was art.

The two faced off for a rematch this past Saturday, and by some sort of miracle it actually looked like a real football game!

The Horned Frogs won 34-32, but both teams came away as the winner to me because they didn’t repeat the travesty they put in front of us a few years ago.

4. Oregon Ducks

Going into Columbus, Ohio against a top 5 opponent and pulling off the upset typically would get a team ranked higher.

That would be the case if I didn’t see this one coming from a mile away.

Still, CJ Verdell was expected to have a big day for the Ducks against Ohio State, and he did with 161 rushing yards and 3 total touchdowns.

That’s a signature win for Mario Cristobal, and college football is just better when a team out West is a legitimate contender.

3. Arkansas Razorbacks

I don’t know if you guys heard, but a few months ago Texas announced they were going to the SEC.

Arkansas decided to give them a nice little welcome.

One week after Texas impressive win against a very talented Louisiana team, they were blown off the field by Arkansas.

Sam Pittman has the Razorbacks playing very competitively in a tough division, and if that’s what Texas can expect when they join in 2025 (or earlier) then it’s going to be tough sledding.

2. Jacksonville State Gamecocks

Being the first FCS team to beat Florida State? That’s pretty cool.

Doing it in the way they did? Even better.

Questions can (rightfully) be asked about what the hell Florida State was doing on that last play, but credit to the Gamecocks for being in the game to get to that point to begin with.

1. BYU Cougars

Overall, not a bad couple days for BYU!

On Friday, BYU was confirmed as a new member of the new (and much more fun) Big 12 conference, along with Cincinnati, UCF and Houston.

On Saturday night, BYU took on Utah in The Holy War and got their first win against the Utes since 2009.

Not only did they win, they took them apart.

Jaren Hall looks like the real deal for BYU, and they’re turning into quite the program. Credit to Kalani Sitake for the job he has done in Provo.
