Brian’s College Football Top 5: Week 13
There’s only one more full weekend of college football.
That sucks!
Why does the best sport have the shortest season? It’s not fair.
Whatever.
Let’s just enjoy what time we have left.
Here is this weeks top 5.
5. Kansas Jayhawks
Kansas had Big 12 title hopes this year.
The season didn’t go that way for the Jayhawks, but they have now just won their third straight game against a ranked opponent after defeating Colorado.
It’s equally great to see they still have it, but frustrating it didn’t happen sooner.
Still, they’re finishing strong, and are just one win away from bowl eligibility.
Remember, this is still Kansas. Bowl games are good things.
4. Arizona State Sun Devils
I said it last week.
Or maybe it was two weeks ago.
Or maybe it was both! Because what Kenny Dillingham is doing in Tempe this year is outstanding.
Arizona State now controls their fate for a Big 12 title game appearance in year two under Dillingham with another home upset win over BYU.
Tempe is once again becoming a house of horrors for ranked teams.
As it should be.
3. Florida Gators
“Florida’s schedule is insanely difficult. They’re a bad football team. Billy Napier is going to get fired.”
True freshman QB DJ Lagway is a stud, and the Gators are now bowl bound after beating Ole Miss in Gainesville.
On the same week no less that Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin was talking about how teams may sit out the SEC title game to avoid the extra loss and miss the playoffs.
Guess you should have focused on getting there first, Lane.
In fact, it was a banner weekend for the SEC and poorly aged quotes…
2. Auburn Tigers
Texas A&M coach Mike Elko said during his press conference that his team is fully focused on the upcoming opponent, the Texas Longhorns.
The problem is, Texas A&M was playing Auburn. Not Texas.
And if there was any doubt that quote was a sign A&M was possibly overlooking the 4-6 Tigers, Auburns quick 21-0 lead was a clear cut sign of it.
A&M fought back to force overtime, but the Tigers pulled through in 4 OTs to get the upset win.
A&M can still head to the SEC championship by beating Texas, but maybe they shouldn’t have overlooked Auburn.
1. Oklahoma Sooners
For the past few weeks, people online, and even in the SEC, have been blabbering about about how they should let in all the 2 loss SEC teams because they’re so good and so much better and blah blah blah.
(Also, have some shame, SEC coaches and fans carrying the water for your rivals. You’re what’s wrong with this sport. Worrying about the conferences bottomline instead of watching your rival fans be sad).
Well, two loss Ole Miss lost. Two loss Texas A&M lost.
And 2 loss Alabama lost after they got absolutely smacked by new conference member Oklahoma.
Like I said for Kiffin and Elko.
Maybe focus on what you can control instead of dumb hypotheticals and what’s down the line, because now all of you should be on the outside looking in.
I say should be, because I know how this sport works and know that they won’t be.
