Brian’s College Football Top 5: Week 10

It’s finally November, which means it’s time to get into the nitty gritty of the college football season.

So here we go.

The top 5 from week 10.

5. Texas Longhorns

It is crazy that TEXAS beating VANDERBILT is considered impressive, but that’s where we are.

And it was in large part due to Arch Manning, who was fantastic in the 2nd half to comeback and beat Mississippi State last week, and fantastic Saturday to beat Vanderbilt.

Texas still has playoff hopes as of right now, and it’s because of Arch improving as the year goes on.

4. SMU Mustangs

Usually, an unranked team beating a top 10 team would be worth of a higher spot on this list.

And while SMU’s performance was awesome, and a great signature win right after Rhett Lashlee signed an extension, it was expected that Miami would drop another inexplicable game that kept them from postseason glory.

Still, it was a great win for SMU, and a statement of their intention’s moving forward.

3. West Virginia Mountaineers

West Virginia’s win on the road over Houston was the first road top 25 win West Virginia had since 2018.

I hadn’t yet graduated from WVU when that happened.

It’s been a long, long road for the Mountaineers, and they still have a ways to go, but that was a huge win for WVU.

2. New Mexico Lobos

Jason Eck, take a friggin bow.

A huge road win over UNLV means that New Mexico is going bowling for the first time since 2016, and it came in year one with their new head coach.

What could be better than that?

1. Kennesaw State Owls

How about Kennesaw State, who is bowl eligible for the first time in school history, and in the first year they were even possible to be eligible.

I thought it was a huge mistake the Owls fired Brian Bohannon last year, but boy was I dead wrong.

The Owls hired Jerry Mack, and are now 6-2 and headed to a bowl in just their second ever season in the FBS.

The turnaround from 2-10 to 6-2 is absolutely remarkable, and I’m excited to see if this success is sustainable.
